UTRECHT, THE NETHERLANDS – August 14, 2020. Dutch Games Association (DGA) will be hosting the eleventh Country Pavilion during gamescom 2020. This year there’s a twist: it will be 100% digital and part of devcom! Also going to gamescom is the Dutch Game entry for the Europlay contest – the DGA is proud to announce that The Falconeer will be representing the Netherlands on August 28!
The Netherlands @ devcom
In 2019, over 30 companies participated at gamescom and the Holland Pavilion was a great success. This year is a little different than usual, but some of the foremost Dutch companies are present once again – come and meet the elite of the Dutch games industry during this digital episode of devcom 2020.
The broad selection of companies and organisations who will be present represents the Dutch games sector at its best across a wide variety of fields in the game industry. Like every year, we look forward to showing off to the rest of the world a selection of what our talented Dutch developers have been working on lately.
At the Netherlands Pavilion, you’ll find established industry players such as Vertigo Games, Paladin, Gamious publisher Iceberg Interactive, and indie teams like Grumpy Owl and Audiophile.
Devcom takes place from August 17 to August 30, and this year the event is even more about establishing and extending international networks. Therefore DGA partnered once again with MeetToMatch, the Dutch premium networking service, where you can effectively and efficiently meet all the people you need to.
Today we can also announce the representative of the Netherlands for the ‘Eurovision of games’! The Europlay Games Contest is organized by Ukie and will take place on 28th August.
We’re proud to announce that the Dutch finalist and Dutch representative will be Tomas Sala with his game The Falconeer. The Falconeer is an open-world air combat game, featuring frenetic aerial dogfights and deep exploration of the mysterious open world of The Great Ursee. For more information, please visit www.TheFalconeer.com.
For access to the zoom channels for the contest and to meet the studios, please register here.

On September 7th, Dutch Games Association will hold its annual General Assembly. During the General Assembly, we will be going over the last association year and look ahead. Our board will address our members and there will be room to propose matters that strengthen the strategy. Formalities, such as the annual accounts and the annual report, will also be discussed, whereby we will ask our members for approval by means of a vote.
Due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and the consequences, the board has decided to make use of the temporary legal provisions to allow the General Assembly to take place online and to postpone it to a more suitable time later in the year.
Date: 7 september
Time: 16.00 – 18.00
The General Assembly is only accessible for Dutch Games Association Members. On July 20th we’ve formally invited all our member company contacts via email. Didn’t receive an invite? Please get in touch with our team!
Dutch Games Association partnered with Ukie and other European associations for the launch of The EuroPlay Games Contest which will take place on 28th August during Gamescom. The EuroPlay Games Contest: ‘Eurovision of games’ will show the best unreleased games from across Europe in a live showcase, in a Eurovision-style.
The EuroPlay Games Contest will be a Live digital event taking place during gamescom and devcom. Each participating country will select one national representative game developer to submit a 2 minute 30 second video (maximum length) of their, as yet unreleased game.
The game videos will be showcased on Friday 28 August in a live show, hosted by leading video game show presenter Mr Midas, across all the main digital channels including twitter, twitch and facebook with all viewers invited to vote for their favourite game. The live show will conclude with the announcement of the winner, decided entirely by public vote on twitter.
With the fate of the winner resting in the hands of the public, the video will clearly need to show off the quality of the game. But remember this is also your chance to impress your potential customers so make sure your voice-over adds all the key game details and throw in some humour!
But that is not all. Whilst the live show is broadcast, the finalists will be hosted by Ukie in their own breakout rooms on zoom. We will be encouraging the media, journalists and potential partners to visit the studios to find out more about the game and to explore promotional and commercial opportunities.
Deadline for submission: July 26th.
