The contest is looking for a solution to a complex issue, therefore WHO CARES is open to everyone and tries to stimulate collaboration between different sectors. This contest could be particularly interesting for people and companies in the Applied Gaming sector. Each team needs to have at least one designer in order to participate. WHO CARES also has a matching system for people who are in need of a team, or team members.
About the Contest
The design contest WHO CARES is looking for an innovative and sustainable solution that gives an impulse to the gentrification of postwar neighborhoods. The population is aging, elderly people often prefer living in the same neighborhood for as long as possible and more people who tend to live alone are looking for a social connection. The latter is also the case for younger generations. Even though living requirements of the people have changed, the actual housing situation has remained the same, and is no longer sustainable.
Contestants are asked to develop a solution to better serve the aging population, through changes in healthcare- and healthcare support within neighborhoods. The winning team will develop their idea in a specific neighborhood with the help of the contest creators.
The design contest WHO CARES has been announced on January 18th and was created by government architect Floris Alkemade in cooperation with foundation Humanitas the municipality of Almere, Groningen, Rotterdam, and Sittard-Geleen in collaboration with the province of Limburg. More information on the different neighborhoods can be found on the wijkportretten page.
WHO CARES consists out of multiple rounds, once admitted to the second round, teams will receive a reimbursement to further develop their concept. The results of the second round will be presented in the Autumn of 2017.
