Generative AI in the Dutch Games Industry Discussed at DGA Talks

“Let’s talk about generative AI in our industry.” The title of our last DGA Talks event sparked some controversy. But our job as a trade association is not to stick our heads in the sand and wait for things to blow over. We inspire, connect, and serve the industry. And on June 19 we did that through an afternoon full of informative talks.

We explored angles from companies that use AI in their day-to-day work, listened to insights from lecturers and researchers, shared Games Monitor data on how the Dutch games industry does or does not use AI, and closed the afternoon with a panel about what AI does to our industry.

One question that came up from the audience really stuck with me: “Are we here today because we are afraid to be left behind, or are we here for the love of game creation and working with new technology?” A good number of hands were raised in both instances.

I am glad we got together a group of people with different opinions who all felt welcome to listen and discuss — and I hope you also all felt heard. Let’s keep the conversation going.

A big thanks to Utrecht University for providing the location, to Matthijs Dierckx for organizing, Juney Dijkstra for hosting, and to our speakers for inspiring: Ludwin Schouten, Jasper Vis, Quinten Heijn, Johannes Pfau, and Laurens Rutten.
